Sailor Moon
[edit]I'm afraid I can't see exactly what you mean. It would help if you showed me the exact section that you want to edit, and what you want to do.
Curly brackets (as you probably already know) are usually used for templates. Wikipedia expands what's inside the curly brackets to the original page. If you look (by clicking on "edit this page"), the welcome message I left you was inside a pair of curly brackets — I just typed in {{User:Asbestos/Welcome2}} and it expanded automagically to the content of the page User:Asbestos/Welcome2. If you want the curly brackets to show, however, like I did in this message, you surround them with <nowiki>{{blah blah}}</nowiki> tags.
If this wasn't your question, though, let me know exactly what you're trying to do (though I won't be able to answer straight away as I'm signing off now). — Asbestos | Talk 12:07, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- The template itself is located at Template:SMoon. In general templates are located in the Wikipedia Template space, and so can be found just by sticking the work "Template:" in front of them. Template:SMoon is just a regular page, you can edit it like you would any other. When you edit it, its instance on every Sailor Moon page should update with it. The article seems fine — good work. The only style-issue that I can think of is the two styles of references you have in the article. I'd suggest either making both external links show up as numbers (such as [1]), or putting them both at the bottom of the article as footnotes. Though you probably don't need it here, for longer articles you should check out the Wikipedia:Footnotes structure. De-stubbing
[edit]Well, if you really wanted to unstub them (that is, remove the {{US-airport-stub}} tag and assess as Start-class), you could add a few things. One would be a brief history, as all airports have one. When did it open? Did anybody famous fly out of there? Were they any notable accidents at the field? You could mention what services are available—100LL, Jet-A, Nitrogen, Oxygen, Airframe, etc—but stay away from listing FBO names unless they're quite notable. How about a picture? You could check with the FAA's NACO website to see if an airport diagram exists, convert and upload it in .png format, like this one. Or, how about something on the architecture? Anything in the news from a reputable source makes a good piece to write about as well.
The options are pretty limitless for what you can add to the article. These are only a handful of ideas. You could also garner some ideas from our Featured Article in the project, Montréal-Mirabel International Airport, if you'd like. Insignia
[edit]300px|thumb|The thirteen divisions and their insignia, respectively. Each of the 13 divisions in Gotei 13 have their own symbol that represents the division's primary role, and in turn, each symbol has a meaning. For instance, the 11th Division symbol is a rhombus with 7 stars and means 'fight' while the camellia symbol of the 6th Division means 'noble reasoning'. The meanings of all the symbols have not been clearly revealed. All of them seem to be based on flowers.
The LiveJournal community 'Soul Society' discussed the identification of the various unidentified flower symbols. A series of character/flower posters issued in 2006 were also considered for identification purposes. From the discussion, a combination of florists, native Japanese speakers and other fans produced the following list:
- chrysanthemum (kiku or rangiku) or centaurea
- cyclamen (shikuramen or kagaribibana)
- cornflower (yagurumagiku) or chrysanthemum (kiku)
- gentian (rindou), possibly Gentiana acaulis
- lily of the valley (susuran)
- camellia (tsubaki), previous identified from canonical material
- iris (ayame)
- strelitzia (gokurakuchouka), also known as 'bird of paradise'
- lotus (hasu), specifically sacred lotus
- daffodil/narcissus (suisen)
- yarrow (nokogirisou)
- thistle (azami), dianthus or sweet william
- snowdrop
Several of these flowers have stylized depictions in historical kamon.
Discussion
[edit]Frankly, I'm torn a bit here. We can't add this sort of information unsourced, that would be original research. But LiveJournal is hardly a reliable source for our purposes. However, it's also quite clearly correct matches for about 9 or 10 of the flowers, the others being iffy. However, the criteria for inclusion in Wikipedia is not truth but rather verifiability, which as far as I know Kubo has not yet given. I'm leaning towards this being very good speculation, but speculation nonetheless and not includable. --tjstrf talk 15:17, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, that second source does definitely present hope for you. You typed the url formatting wrong so I didn't see it earlier, it just showed up as a 404 error. For at least the ones that have posters matching them up I believe the posters can be a sufficient reference because the comparison is being made directly by the artist and is quite direct (where two characters of the same division have posters they also have the same flowers). That would give us references for 3rd, 4th, 6th, 10th, and 13th divisions, with a random extra picture of Ichigo holding a sunflower. re Girl Genius
[edit]I like the work you've done on the page, but I have one concern: the length. As it is, it seems to almost be a recreation of all the exhaustive cast and plot info on the official site, to the point where I've had friends remark that after reading the article, they don't see much need to bother with the comic. It's my understanding that spoiler tags are no longer standard Wikipedia policy, so that's not an option to keep readers from being 'spoiled'. On the other hand, I'm not sure quite how would one go trimming it down to keep the salient bits--reduce or eliminate secondary character bios maybe? In any case, I'd be interested to hear what you think, and again kudos for your work on it. Rachel Summers (talk) 06:01, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comments, Rachel. I've asked a couple of the Wikia editors to take a look over it to see if there's anything I missed, or if they have any ideas about how to improve it further. I don't much like the spoilers/lack of spoiler warnings in a current series (as opposed to, say, the Potter books), but if that's somebody's idea of policy, so be it.
- Ironically, I think most of the glurge snuck in while the several of us were concentrating on getting the GG Wikia off the ground - can't be everywhere at once, eh? There were a lot of unfounded extrapolations in there, and character aspersions against Baron Wulfenbach, so it needed the workover badly.

- Heh! I agree, dissing the Baron (and with no proper sourcing) is just no good. ^_^
- Well, first off I think it might be good if the parts of the article referring to the primary source (the comic itself) didn't unduly overwhelm the parts referring to secondary sources, particularly as the best and biggest articles on fictional works (say, for a Star Trek movie) concentrate more on the subject's real-world impact (awards, critical reception, impact on popular culture) than the plot itself. This could be accomplished in part by taking the section explaining Sparks and merging the most salient bits (a few sentences?) into a section like Gaslamp Fantasy to give an overview of the comic's world/setting.
- Another tactic that would help in this would be to reduce the character bios; chop a lot of the secondary ones and pare down a few of the mains (Agatha, Baron, Gilgamesh)--in particular, the character bios shouldn't read like a running timeline of everything they've done. If people keep adding to Agatha's bio everytime something new happens to her in the series, the article will get pretty lengthy and redundant.
- I think there's a lot of potential for this to be a featured article, but the bloat and fancruft will have to be cut way down for that to happen. All the detailed info and minutiae would be great on a dedicated Girl Genius Wiki or fansite, but not so much on Wikipedia. *whew* So that's all I can think of, let me know your thoughts. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference
[edit]Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.
On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true
. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false
in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.
For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely.
