Dáil constituency (1923–present)
Wicklow is a parliamentary constituency represented in Dáil Éireann , the lower house of the Irish parliament or Oireachtas . The constituency elects 5 deputies (Teachtaí Dála , commonly known as TDs) on the electoral system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote (PR-STV).
Until 2024, the constituency spanned the entire area of County Wicklow , including the towns of Wicklow , Arklow , Baltinglass , Greystones and Bray .[ 1]
The Electoral (Amendment) (Dáil Constituencies) Act 2017 defines the constituency as:[ 1]
"The county of Wicklow."
The Constituency Review Report 2023 of the Electoral Commission recommended that at the next general election , Wexford lose a seat to become a four-seat constituency with the transfer of territory in the south of County Wicklow to the new constituency of Wicklow–Wexford .[ 2]
For the next general election , the Electoral (Amendment) Act 2023 defines the constituency as:[ 3]
"The county of Wicklow except the part thereof which is comprised in the constituency of Wicklow-Wexford."
